I have been playing phone tag for a casual job first cut interview with the VP of a systems software firm. Here’s what’s happened:
- Thursday afternoon – headhunter sets up call for 1400 on Monday
- 1400 Monday – he’s stuck in a meeting – customer issues. No problem, I understand, I leave message. He calls back around 1630, we reschedule for Tuesday at 1400.
- 1400 Tuesday – he’s at home sick, but left explicit instructions with the receptionist to get my phone number so he can call me today to reschedule.
- 0830 today – he calls back, we schedule for 1400
- 1400 today – I call, and he’s in a meeting.
So…is this a sign? Are karmic influences trying to steer me away from this company (name available upon request, e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org) ?
Update – he called at 1430, apologizing profusely, saying that he has been busy with a company acquisition that has suddenly gone from back to front burner…
Ruthlessly (“I wonder where Ruth is”) stolen from talonvaki:
The Dante’s Inferno Test has banished you to the Second Level of Hell!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
|Purgatory (Repenting Believers)||Very Low|
|Level 1 – Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers)||Low|
|Level 2 (Lustful)||High|
|Level 3 (Gluttonous)||High|
|Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious)||Low|
|Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy)||Low|
|Level 6 – The City of Dis (Heretics)||Low|
|Level 7 (Violent)||Moderate|
|Level 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers)||Moderate|
|Level 9 – Cocytus (Treacherous)||Low|
Take the Dante’s Inferno Test
(I need a good lemming icon.)
and time to write up the monthly status report. I also need to fill in the short week timesheet (our payroll accounting system sux), and the monthly time sheet for the Germans. Separate accounting systems for different companies for different countries…
I’ve been on the phone with Germany and the UK this morning. Germany is going into a 4 day weekend – again. Tomorrow is May Day or Labor Day, but many people are also taking off Friday. The UK has the first Spring Bank Holiday on Monday.
With all the stress I’ve been under with the job uncertainties, I might take off Friday.
Now I’ve got a reason not to move back to Atlanta….earthquakes. (I hate the damn things, especially when they strike in the middle of the night, as they have a tendency to do around here.)
but I had another bug from hell. I even worked 2 hours Sunday night on it and it didn’t work. But when speaking with *SU on Monday, I realised that I’d done something stupid. (If you know IBM Assembler, it has to do with default lengths; I was moving 1 byte of a 2 byte field – or so I thought. I’d forgotten to explicitly state 1 byte, so it defaulted to 2, overwriting the next byte in the control block, which was the error code…) Once I got that fixed, the original problem was solved. Then I uncovered another problem, but it appears to be with the other product, not me.
So I’ve played catch-up today; knocked 3 problems back over to QE for more info, because they sure work in my test system.
One interesting new problem came in today, but I’m bushed. I’m trying to do email and LJ catch-up.
For lunch, I had a burrito from our new little Mexican-hole-in-the-wall place in Big Bear City. Damn good and filling! I didn’t have any breakfast, and I wonder if I’ll have dinner.
It looks like the Gunners will not repeat as EPL champions. Sad, especially since it’s Man U who look like they’ll take it all. But maybe it will come down to a Fever Pitch-like scenario again. Not quite the same, though, since Arsenal have done quite well since that balmy day in May 1989…
I highly recommend the Nick Hornby book. I wonder what ever happened to the script that would have placed it in Boston. Probably the realisation that the BoTox still haven’t won a Series since way-back-when.
